Gerry and the Pacemakers - Definitive CD release

At long last, after 21 yers of piecemeal CD repackagings from EMI (starting with The Singles Plus and running through a few dozen Greatest Hits, Super Hits, Deluxe Editions, Extraordinary Special Collections and the like), EMI is finally releasing a definitive Gerry and the Pacemakers CD set. Set to hit stores in February 2008, You'll Never Walk Alone (The EMI Years 1963-1966) seems to have just about everything from their EMI period, and EMI has evidently scoured the archives for unreleased material, including more live tracks from the concert partially released as the "Gerry in California" EP. Amazon has the set listed for pre-order at $65.99.

Here's the media release I've been forwarded, along with the track list. (I presume that the repeated tracks on Disc 4 are stereo versions):

(1/17/2008) "You'll Never Walk Alone (the EMI Years 1963-1966)" a new import only four-CD set hitting the racks on Feb. 5 in the UK. will feature the most extensive profile ever of the work of Liverpool rockers Gerry and the Pacemakers. Here's the description from Amazon.com:

"Hitting the top spot with their first three singles Gerry & The Pacemakers were a true Mersey Beat phenomena. They rivaled the Beatles in the heady days of that scene and had a huge following at home and abroad when Liverpool was the toast of popular music. Scousers through and through the band, headed by the inimitable Gerry Marsden enjoyed extraordinary success and in their EMI years from 1963 -1966 were as big as any of the home-grown talent. This four CD box set is the definitive collection of the band at its peak. It contains EMI 'Columbia' recordings from January 1963 until November 1966 and the hit singles such as "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It", "You'll Never Walk Alone", "I'm the One" and of course "Ferry Cross The Mersey". It also includes unreleased tracks, early and 'no strings" versions, all their UK singles, EPs and LP masters with some recordings issued only in the USA and Canada. Included are many in both mono and stereo plus the full Oakland Auditorium show, in stereo, which provided the 4 tracks for the "Gerry In California" (mono) EP. The package includes liner notes written by Spenser Leigh, a detailed sessionogrophy and a number of previously unseen photos from the EMI archives." (Thanks to Matt Slys, who assisted the production and provided contact info, song research, LP scans for the project, for the info.)
